This morning, our elementary lunchroom was transformed into a cozy literary lounge for the 5th-grade culminating event of their CKLA Poetry unit. Under dim mood lighting and the glow of a digital fireplace, students traded their textbooks to host a "Poetry Cafe."
Throughout the unit, students shifted their perspective on poetry—moving away from seeing it as a "riddle to be solved" and embracing it as a powerful tool for self-expression and precise communication. Guests were treated to heartfelt original works while enjoying muffins and hot chocolate to the sound of soft classical music. It was a beautiful celebration of voice, creativity, and the hard work of our young writers.

Congratulations to 8th grader Liam Melton, and junior Criscenda Eilers, for being selected Students of the Month for February! Staff had the following to say about each one...

"Liam is an outstanding student who gets along well with everyone. He is active in sports in the middle school. And he was a valuable member on the middle school Scholars' Bowl team. Liam always has a great attitude and behaves positively with his classmates and peers!"

"Criscenda is extremely involved in sports, student section, and extracurricular activities like STUCO and NHS. She is the type of student to come early and stay late, all while keeping a positive attitude. She is dependable, kind to staff and classmates, and always brings a positive energy. Although she is heavily involved, she manages to keep her grades up and is always caught up on her school work."

Juniors Phillip Webb, Toby Ponce, Daniel Sickmann, Lilly Hoffman, and Aliya Wolf spent the day at Emporia State University on Thursday. After hearing about the several majors, student programs, and scholarships ESU has to offer, they got to visit each of the academic buildings, including the brand new Nursing and Student Wellness facility. The tour also included a look inside all of the residence halls so they could compare the different layouts and amenities.
